Cognor SA is a Poland-based company that operates in the steel industry.  The company is vertically integrated which allows to control the production process starting from scrap metal sourced through our own scrap collecting sites network, through melting of scrap metal, refining it in order to get the desired chemical composition of steel, then casting steel into a form of billets (semi-finished products) to finally arrive at the stage of billets being rolled into finished products, mostly bars (long products). This provides much greater security in terms of feedstock availability and allows to achieve the whole margin along the value chain.  Cognor produces a wide variety of steel products, ranging from basic and alloy steels to unusual products such as armoured metal sheets (including for the wheeled armoured vehicle Rosomak), heat-resistant sheets and stainless steel.

The company was founded in 1991, initially focusing on trade in steelworks products. Cognor has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 1997. In 2006, it became part of a steelworks and metal scrap trading industrial group. Cognor operates in line with the highest standards in business ethics, based on the many years of experience amassed by its companies. A partner model of cooperation - both within the organisation and in contacts with clients - makes it possible for the copmany to develop a unique competence in manufacturing steel products while ensuring optimal operational efficiency and meeting the growing expectations of clients on the global market.

The key buyers of Cognor’s products are automotive and construction industry entities, mainly in Poland but also in Europe, largely in Germany, to which the company sold an estimated 23% and 27% of its sales of semi-finished products and final products, respectively, in 2016.

Cognor operates in two core areas:

• Production division, represented by the following branches of Cognor SA: HSJ branch in Stalowa Wola and Ferrostal Łabędy branch in Gliwice, which produce semi-finished and finished steelworks products, both long (smooth bars, flat bars, sections) and flat (thick and thin sheets)
• Raw material division, represented by the following branch of Cognor SA – Złomrex branch in Wrocław, which purchases, processes and sells steel and non-ferrous metal scrap to the Group’s production entities and to external clients.
